At Lash Tyme, we often get asked what type of lashes we use, as there is a lot of confusion about the quality and the different types of eyelash extensions that are available. Generally speaking, there are three types of lashes – faux silk and mink, synthetic/acrylic and real mink and real human hair lashes.
Synthetic lashes are also known as acrylic lashes, is generally the term used to describe thicker more full lashes. While all three types of lashes are used in the industry, Lash Tyme only uses mink eyelashes because their amazing quality and the most dramatic result.
The term ‘mink and silk lashes’ is often confused for being composed of actual silk and mink fibers, but they are both made from synthetic fibers. The characteristics that differentiate mink and silk are their tapering (how fine the lashes are shaped towards the tip), their weight, and their finish. In most cases silk lashes are less tapered, lightweight, with a glossier finish; while mink lashes are more tapered, ultra lightweight, and has a matte finish. However, the lash length, design and quality of both mink lashes and faux silk depend greatly on the brand of lashes.
Finally, real mink and human hairs are considered to be the finest type of eyelash extensions as they are natural fibers that are more rare and exotic. Eyelash extensions applied with this option often command that a premium price charged for the service. Although they are indeed very soft, light, and natural looking, there are cons to using these types of lash extensions – it is difficult to determine whether the hairs was properly obtained, and truly sterile. Also, because the hair is natural, the lash extensions do not retain their shape well over time.
At Lash Tyme, we have tested many types of lashes from different suppliers and use only the best mink lashes on our customers. We have found that best lash extensions are mink lashes, which are available in a wide range of curls, length, and width to suit all needs; also, the retain their curl, and have the most natural look and feel.
